Multiple Pets Insurance

If you have more than one pet in your household you will need to arrange insurance cover for each pet individually. A pet insurance policy usually only applies to one pet. Their details are logged with the insurer, and if any claim is made on the insurance the insurer will want to confirm that the claim is solely in relation to the pet / animal for which the insurance policy was arranged.

For owners of two or more pets this might seem unfair. However it is no different to the way that any other insurance policy works -- for example a car insurance policy. On a car insurance policy each car in a household is individually insured. Just as with pet insurance there is absolutely no way that you can claim on the insurance for a vehicle that is different to the one that the insurance was arranged for in the first place.

Thankfully, for pet owners, there is some cost advantage in buying multiple insurance policies. If cover is arranged through a single insurer taking out insurance for more than one pet can be done at a discount -- and a substantial discount at that!

Multiple pet cover

Whether insuring two pets or a menagerie of animals, if you take your time to survey the pet insurance market, you will find some excellent multiple pet discounts on offer. Some insurers might discount insurance on a second pet policy by 5% or 10%. Other insurers however may provide larger discount margins. One insurer was recently promoting a 45% discount when multiple pet insurance was bought online.

Benefits of multiple pet insurance

The main benefit of multiple pet insurance is the obvious one -- all of your pets are insured. Should any of them suffer an accident, illness or injury, you are entitled to make a claim on their policies for the cost of treatment etc. Beyond that multiple pet insurance provides the ultimate peace of mind for you as owner of these animals. You know that should anything happen to any of them, you will be able to give them the medical care and attention that they deserve - no questions asked - without it breaking the bank.

How to buy multiple pet cover

Buying multiple pet cover for your animals is very simple. Just locate an insurer that offers the right type of cover that you need for your pets and then inquire about the discounts available for insuring multiple pets. Many insurers now publish their discount rates online. However, some do not so it is always worth approaching the insurer or insurance broker to ask whether a discount can be arranged. You might just be surprised by their answer!

Are you a breeder?

Pet insurance can be a tricky business when considering the offspring of animals that you breed. However, several insurers now offer 'free insurance' periods that cover offspring for a limited amount of time. If your kittens or puppies were to get into difficulty then you could find that the cost of any treatments are covered on the parents' insurance policy.
