November 5th Can Cause A Great Deal Of Stress For Animals

Fireworks night is a night most people enjoy with its bonfires and light shows illuminating the sky, but pet insurance firm RIAS is urging pet owners to think of their beloved animals on the night.

Whereas we enjoy fireworks night, animals tend to find the event stressful. The sounds of explosions can cause them to suffer physical injuries as well as a great deal of distress and fear. The results could be a hefty veterinary bill after the event to put things right. Much of the time, what starts out as a night of fun could turn into an expensive evening as pet owners have to shell out and pay for their four legged friends.

And it is reported that it is not just cats and dogs that can be affected by Guy Fawkes night so in light of this owners should consider taking out pet insurance to cover the potential costs. Better yet, RIAS say, people should take precautions ahead of the night to ensure that their pets are safe from harm and can go through the night without injury. For starters, owners can make sure that they keep their animals indoors, preferably locked so that they cannot escape and become frightened outside. Whilst they are indoors music or the television could be left on to drown out the noise and hide it from them. If a dog needs walking it would also be preferable to do so before dark on secure leads to make sure they are away from harm’s way. If owners are visiting a fireworks display, they are advised not to take their pets with them and do not leave their pets alone if the house is nearby. Additionally, the number for the local vet should be kept at hand at all times.

RIAS points out that many owners get caught up with the excitement of fireworks night and forget to take these kinds of precautions and do not take into account how vulnerable cats and dogs are on such a night. At the very least, adequate pet insurance will ease the burden and make sure the pet is well protected in case of an emergency.
